Wow! It seems like only yesterday we were preparing for our move overseas. And now here we are, back in Canada. For a year already!!
Our four years in Madrid went SO quickly. There are so many things I never got to do! And so many things I did get to do!
I have been struggling for ages to write this post….just never quite had the words. Or perhaps ‘motivation’ is more accurate.
While I am very HAPPY to now be living amongst our children & grandbabies, I certainly do miss Madrid.
Not having my ‘Damas en Madrid’ (Ladies in Madrid) definitely took a long time to get used to.

I MISS these women very much, as I do ALL our friends in Madrid. We Damas shared a very active, and deeply personal friendship, whether it be just me & one of the girls, or the whole gang.

The Spanish way of life is very much about this human contact and interaction.
I was thrilled to discover last Christmas, when I wrote my ‘Happy Holidays’ email, that it had 57 recipeints with European addresses! Fifty-seven persons who are not casual acquatiances in any way. Each and every one of these friends, we would happily & excitedly have as house guests!
I have been eager to get a “Damas en Winnipeg’ going. This, however is proving much more difficult than my Spanish one. As I sit here thinking about why….. I suppose I only have myself to blame.
While I am proud that I was able to ‘come out of retirement’ as easily as I entered it, it’s almost like I walked right back into my old life. Which only proves ‘as much as things change, they stay the same.’
But I am not the same…….
