Closet Purging 101

April 19, 2020

Do it as you go.  It’s simpler.   More efficient.   And it keeps you current.

In a previous house, I installed linen shelving in my PDR.

This allowed for one article of clothing per inch.  No more!

Each time I was tempted to purchase something new, the item not only had to pass my ‘3 test rule’, it also had to warrant removing something!  Let me tell you, this ‘One In One Out’ strategy certainly saved me a lot of money!!

The system worked SO WELL, that I repeated it in our current home.

Also, if I wear an item and deem it uncomfortable, for whatever reason:  (too short, too itchy, too tired, or whatever) the item does not make it back onto a hanger.  After all, it is not going to get longer or less itchy over time.

Downstairs in my laundry room I keep a ‘donate bin’. Any item my MiniMe doesn’t claim, goes directly in here after laundering. (I mean, Really Why would you donate something dirty!).

However, if the problem was with the fit of a BELOVED garment, there are other possibilities. 1) The garment goes to the tailors to be altered. b) It ends up in a special place…..a lonely single Rubbermaid bucket, tucked away in the far recesses of the basement, labeled “perhaps one day it will fit again’….
