Back in the day, Madrid tiendas hosted only two sales a year. In January, the small shops would discount their winter stock in preparation for the summer season. And then again in July to make room for new winter stock. Genius I’d say, as it kept the competition fair, and shops from (theoretically) overstocking.
Now with all the American chains and El Cortes Ingles department stores, having perpetual sales, it has taken some of the excitement out of this ‘Most Wonderful Time of The Year’.
But I personally love this idea of twice a year, and save my Euros accordingly…..
During the fabulous ‘Rebajas’, go to the shops you can NOT normally afford. 50% off a lot, is a lot Saved!
Take for instance, my Chanel booties at 400 Euros.
Now 400 Euro is a lot of money! But, I choose to buy one killer pair, as opposed to 2 or 3 run-of-the-mill pairs.
While they are not my day-to-day boots, when I do wear them, I cannot help but walk a little prouder.
Recently I wore them for a ‘Damas in Madrid’ lunch, and it was on my long walk back home that I stopped by one of my favourite shops, DEW. While I was happily browsing, I heard a sales associate behind me say “shoes”. Obviously the staff have a ‘secret code language’. I felt FABULOUS !!
And, I shall have, and wear them, for the rest of my life. Unlike my waistline, I do not suppose my feet will get wider…
