Bad Hair Day, or a Hat ?

March 27, 2018

Yesterday was the start of Semana Santa (Easter week) here in Spain.     And the forecast calls for rain.    As today is the only Sunny day in the long range forecast, my husband decided to take the day off work.

His plan was to do a few errands while walking in the sunshine, and be home by 15:00 to catch the best sun on our terrace.

When it came time for us to leave, I was still  having a very bad hair day.  Not wanting to delay our outing, I decided to reach for a hat.

The timing of this ‘hair disaster’ was brilliant, as just yesterday, I observed a woman on the street with a wide brimmed felt hat, and thought how stylish she looked.  I also thought ‘Gee, I wish I could do hats’.

I do not do hats.  Never have (except for sun hats of course).  Thankfully, my sister made me buy this one last fall, and today was the first time I have even attempted to wear it.   And off we went….

We wandered down to our old neighbourhood, where we bought my husband a beautiful pair of shoes.   Later, while sipping cappuccinos in the sunshine, I caught a reflection in the window.  ‘There is another woman wearing a hat’ was my initial thought.  Only to quickly realize it was my own reflection.  So unaccustomed as I am to seeing myself in a hat.   But obviously, I was comfortable in it, as I had completely forgotten all about it.

So, my lesson learnt:  it was far more enjoyable for me to try something ‘outside the box’, than to have stressed about my bad hair all afternoon.

Ladies, is there a ‘look’ or ‘accessory’ you want to try out?   Go for it, I mean really, what is the worst that can happen?

  1. I told you years ago you’d look good in a hat, and you fought me on it. AND now, look at you go. Looks great on you.
