White Button Down

July 4, 2025

No matter your size, shape or age, you cannot beat a white button down shirt.

As long as one keeps them in pristine condition that is. They simply go with EVERYTHING!

I have several, though I have yet to find the Perfect One. However, I feel this one from Massimo Dutti is a strong contender.

I am hoping that once I have it shortened, following the exact curve of course (so that I can wear it tucked or untucked) it will be Perfection! Fingers crossed!

When I used to wear them to work (as an accountant) they often ended up with ink on them.  While I do admit that I am a full fledged Laundry Queen, it did become a pain in the butt!  And thus, I stopped wearing them – the long sleeve variety at least.

When I was back in Madrid last November, I purchased & wore this casual one on repeat.  Who knew spending 15 Euros would become a staple in my wardrobe.

I purchased this fabulous Anne Fontaine blouse while on a solo trip to Paris a few years ago. In all honesty, I can not recall which I paid more for – the blouse itself or the amazing butterfly cufflinks!

In addition to my cufflinks (shown above), my husband has quite an extensive collection. While I have yet to borrow any of his, I suspect that is about to change. Imagine how much Edginess some of his would bring to this fabulous blouse.

Everything about this short sleeve blouse was perfection!

I loved the rushing!  And OH those buttons!!!! I wore it to death.   Literally!   Eventually I could no longer get the underarm stains out, and it started to really look tired.

In hindsight I cannot believe I did not first take it to my tailor to make a pattern before passing it on.

Another good tip would be; When you find your absolute PERFECT white shirt, if you plan to wear it often, I suggest buying two. It simply helps to keep the ‘dinge’ away and thus extend the life of said blouse(s).

I have always loved a white button down worn with pearls, jeans and a pair of heels, and I think it’s time I start rocking this look again. After decades of collecting pearls, it’s not like I don’t have options. Also, Jackie Kennedy claimed “Pearls are always appropriate.”

And at the end of each wear , I will painstakingly launder & iron my Whites so that they remain so!
